On Bridge’s first day at a formerly “whites-only” elementary school, all of the white students refused to enter the building. Eventually, students went back to school but refused to go to class with Ruby. She was the sole student in her class for an entire year.
Despite facing death threats and violence, Ruby Bridges' family supported integrating into an all-white school to give Ruby the education she deserved and to “take this step forward. . . for all African-American children.”
